Update on Louisiana Technical College Baton Rouge Campus Shooting Incident

Presently, the LTC is cooperating fully with the Baton Rouge Police Department in their investigation. A press conference was held at 11:09 a.m. at the Louisiana Technical College Baton Rouge campus to provide information on the current status of the situation.

As reported, the Baton Rouge Police Department and the LTC Baton Rouge campus responded quickly to the call for help. The school immediately activated its emergency response plan to protect students, faculty, and staff. Baton Rouge Police responded within two minutes of the initial notification.

At the moment, the following information is known about the victims. The two victims and shooter were students at the LTC Baton Rouge Campus. Their identities have not been released at this time, but their ages are known – 21, 23, and 26.

The Baton Rouge Police Department is still conducting a preliminary investigation. At this time, a motive is unknown.

The leadership of the Louisiana Technical College Baton Rouge Campus in response to a shooting incident this morning executed a carefully considered emergency response plan that focuses first and foremost on the safety and security of students, faculty, and staff.

Presently, the Baton Rouge Police Department is onsite conducting their investigation and LTC Baton Rouge administrators are coordinating with the police department on the safe dismissal of students.

ICare Counselors are currently on-site providing support for students, faculty, staff, and family members. Classes have been canceled for the remainder of the day.

An announcement will be made regarding classes resuming for next week.

Our prayers are with the families of these victims.

The Capital Area Human Services District is ready to help any student/faculty/staff that needs assistance today – they may go to the Clinic that is located at 4615 Government Street and identify themselves as a student/employee of the Baton Rouge Technical Campus.

The Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center is ready to take any and all calls from students, faculty and staff beginning today. The number to call is 225-924-3900.
